How does the denim fit in the waist, crotch, butt and thighs?

I love how this denim fits through the entire leg, thigh and booty area. It is very form fitting but only in the best way possible. However, my number one favorite part of the fit for this denim is in the waist area. Let me preface this by saying that I am all about following trends, but I am sort of “over” the whole super, super low-rise thing. That said, I’m totally loving how this cut has a higher rise. Regardless of how thin you are, I think it is so much more flattering to wear a higher rise waist with form fitting tops and tunics-no muffin top action to worry about! I also adore the longer skinny leg inseam-a perfect fit for a super high heel!

Where have you worn you new ROCK & REPUBLIC’s to?

After trying on this denim, I knew instantly that they’d be must wear to a few holiday parties this season. Because of the dark black wash, they can easily be dressed up or down according to the event. That said, I chose to pair them with my favorite new platform cut-out shoes, a dressy shirt and a boyfriend blazer. I felt confident, comfortable, and sexy (all of my stylish girl friends were inquiring about the new denim). They are the perfect mixture of rocknroll and class…just like the girl I think we all secretly want to be!

How would you style this denim ?

I’ve already styled this denim a few different ways. The fit and color on this denim screams sexy, so the obvious styling choice would reflect that. But, I also wore this denim with a cashmere sweater and riding boots. It was definitely a casual look, but the quality of the denim itself allowed the look to maintain an upscale appeal at the same time.

Describe your experience in letting The Denim Guy fit you?

I absolutely love that the Denim Guy chose this particular pair of denim for me. Of course I was already familiar with Rock & Republic as a brand, but I’d not previously purchased any of their denim. Based on my own personal style, I don’t think many stylists would’ve paired me with RR, but I am so incredibly glad that The Denim Guy pushed my fashion limits and styled me in this vamped-up fit. Having an outsiders opinion is so important when buying denim, otherwise it’s so easy to continually buy the same brands, fits, styles, etc, when in actuality there is so much more out there that all of should be tapping into. I was VERY happily surprised in this styling choice because it forced me to go beyond what I’d normally think of trying on, and I am thrilled with the outcome. I could wear these jeans to work, a red carpet event, out for drinks with my girlfriends, and honestly I could even wear these jeans to church…who would imagined Rock & Republic in the same sentence as church? Well, there you go- I said it and I’m totally doing it!

Did you get picked up on in your new denim? Give us the inside scoop

The denim did garner what I guess could be referred to as a “pick-up” although I can’t exactly say it was successful…unless of course you’re into the over 50-year-old biker crowd…nonetheless, a compliment is compliment, right? I plan to continue this experiment and my extensive research in the near future though.

Who did your new jeans make you want to channel?

This denim made me feel like I was channeling a combo of Megan Fox and Sophia Loren-a mixture of blatantly obvious sex appeal with timeless (yet still sexy) class. Uh, hello, the brand is called Rock & Republic for a reason that I now completely understand.

How does the denim fit in the waist, crotch, butt and thighs?

The Calico is a Vintage fit, Straight Leg, Black Seed Pima Selvage Denim and the fit is very comfortable. What I like about this denim is that the rise is a bit higher than other denim I have. I find myself pulling them up in order to fit them properly.  It’s nice to have a pair of denim that is not too low. The Crotch and butt area are very comfortable, a result of the fabric used in this denim. The denim is White oak cone denim and fabric is amazing. Here is some information about this special denim:

What makes authentic vintage denim so incredible and sought after, is not its uniformity and consistency.  In fact, it is just the opposite.  True vintage denim, woven on original shuttle looms, is chock full of character, inconsistencies and originality; slubs, streaks, and mountains and valleys of texture.  The vintage shuttle looms that produce all denim used by Denim Design Lab are old… beautifully old.  They are far from efficient.  They are slow.  But, that is what creates all of the magic.  Add vintage shuttle looms to the second story of one of the oldest denim mills in the world, and place the looms on an old wooden floor and you get magic.  The rhythmic pulse of these dinosaurs, slowly moving upon a wooden floor ensures every yard of selvage denim we use is full of uniqueness and character.  You have to start with the best ingredients if you hope to end up with the product

Where would you wear this denim?

Light colored denim is worn best during the daytime and that is when I would wear this denim. So where would I wear this denim to? You can find me wearing them at work, meetings, and press event. The ideal place to wear this denim would be on a Saturday afternoon shopping.

How would you style this denim?

Light colored denim is sometimes hard to style; you really have to know what you are doing to look good in light denim. BUT I LOVE LIGHT DENIM, so I’m aware of what coordinates best with this denim. I’m a simple kind of guy, so for me I would wear my DDL’s with a plain white, grey, or light colored v-neck t-shirt. Shoes: during the summer I would rock them with some Gucci flip-flop sandals.  The winter? Some Creative Rec Sneakers!

On a scale of 1-10, how hot did you feel walking down the street in your new denim?

How did your significant other react to your new look?

Single here but my friends loved them. They complimented the color and loved the selvage denim.

Who did your new jeans make you want to channel? David Beckham or Eric Bana?

Not sure. This denim gives me a very rugged feeling and both men are very rugged in their own way. So BOTH!

How does your old denim compare to your new stuff? Any salvation army visits to get rid of the old denim?

I love my DDL’S! A large part of why I do love them is because of the denim they use! I am a denim fanatic so no salvation army visits for me! I keep all my denim!

For the past few weeks, you’ve been hearing a lot about our preparations for Reader Review Month. From garnering participation of several premium denim lines to fitting individual readers in the most flattering jeans possible, we’ve been working around the clock to bring you the best information possible on all of your favorite brands.  And with the New Year upon us, the time has come to present all of you with our findings.

The idea of Reader Review Month came to me in speaking with one of my closest friends and loyal TheDenimGuy.com reader, Suzanne.  Sure, the information she found on the site was insightful and entertaining, but what about the rest of the readers who don’t have the typical measurements of most bite-sized denim models? What kind of denim would look best on, well. . . real people?

Since I’ve started this blog, it has always been my mission to present readers with information only insiders have been privy to.  But with this feedback, I saw an opportunity to not only further educate our readers about the versatility of some denim lines, but also inform these companies about the likes and dislikes of their real life consumers.

So last month, I asked several of our local readers, men and women with a variety of different body types, to send me a list of problems they have when choosing a pair of denim. The responses came in from all over Los Angeles and I was able to compile a team of over 20 reviewers ready to let me show them that finding the right pair of denim doesn’t have to be so frustrating.

As a result, several premium denim lines were eager to participate, allowing me to choose the best possible style, cut, and wash from a variety of top-tier brands. The end product is a series of accounts from real people, with real body types, who (after some trial and error) have fallen in love with their new pairs of denim.

I of course couldn’t have completed this project on my own. I would first like to thank one of my best friends Joanne Rapadas for her help writing and editing content as well as providing behind the scenes photography the day of the photoshoot. I would also like to thank Samuel Lippke who graciously volunteered his time and services to photograph each of our reviewers in over 80 pairs of denim.  And lastly, Tamika Cosen, our review editing guru and my pillar of support throughout this entire process. Thank you for always going above and beyond.

So it is with great pride and anticipation that I present to you Reader Review Month. I hope you enjoy the blogs we’ve put together and can relate to many of the reviewers we will be featuring throughout the month. How does the denim fit in the waist, crotch, butt and thighs?

I LOVE THIS FIT! I know the use of caps in the previous sentence may seem a little over the top, but the emphasis is there for a big reason. The fit on this denim is difficult to rival. Almost never can I find a pair of jeans that actually fit my waist, as well as my thigh/booty area, but the Shane is perfect all around. And to top things off, they are incredibly comfy. The stretch in the fabric extends all the way through the ankle, making it easy wear socks underneath without cutting off circulation to my entire calf (yes, I swear this has happened to me before). Perhaps the best part about this particular style, and something I’ve never personally experienced, is the 86-ing (aka getting rid of) the front pockets. What a genius idea! I want to hug the person who thought this up! Who ever really uses those pockets anyways? They only make the fit uncomfortable and add unneeded bulk. That little extra space just intensifies the comfort level of this fit.

Where would you wear this denim to?

After trying this denim on, I didn’t want to take it off. I was basically like that little kid at the shoe store who begs their mom to let them wear their new shoes out the door. Thankfully the Denim Guy allowed me to be a kid again and wear my new Genetic grey denim out the door. Of course I did just that, and then I refused to remove them (except to shower of course) for the next three days. Yes, I can admit it; I fell in love with this denim. Being that it is the holiday season, I had the opportunity to wear my new Genetics to a wide variety of locations such as: my local Trader Joe’s, a bar in San Francisco, and a holiday dinner with my family at home. At each of these events I received great feedback on my new denim, especially on the fit and wash in particular. Everyone was completely intrigued by the no-front-pocket component, after which I could see the wheels turning and everyone trying to figure out how to score a pair of their own!

How would you style this denim?

The denim gives off that vibe that says “Yeah, I’m casual, but I’m definitely not a mess.” That’s always my goal, because there is NOTHING worse that someone who looks like they are trying too hard! The grey wash on the Shane is so fun and right on trend, so naturally I tried them out with all of my shoes: flat knee-high boots, ankle boots, flats, and cons. Every single look “worked.” That’s the best part about what Genetic does; from a styling perspective it’s always amazing to have a one item of clothing that can easily be paired with things you already have and still look fresh and amazing. The added bonus is that you feel like you’re wearing pajamas because you’re so incredibly comfortable!

Describe your experience in letting the Denim Guy fit you?

The fact that the Denim Guy fitted me in this particular pair of Genetic Denim shows that he really does know what he’s doing. I mentioned a few minor things that I look for in denim and the fact that I’d yet to find that perfect pair of skinny stretch jeans. Well, I don’t think I’ll be looking any further because the Genetics totally delivered what I feel like I’ve been looking for forever! I wasn’t surprised that I liked what he chose for me, but it’s so refreshing to work with someone who really listens to what you want and pays attention, and then delivers the goods. I’m all about simplifying my chaotic life, and that’s just what the Denim Guy does!

Were you familiar with the brand before the fitting?

Because I work in the entertainment industry, I was already very aware of Genetic Denim-all of the hottest celebs are constantly photographed wearing the brand and now I personally understand why

Who did your new jeans make you want to channel?

When I threw on my Genetic denim, I was totally channeling Kristen Stewart! I know she’s a fan of the line and I’m a fan of hers. She always looks like she could really care less about what people think about her and I find that so refreshing. But despite that fact, she also has a defined personal style. I’m still looking for Robert Pattinson to appear somewhere, but perhaps that will happen in the near future, or maybe not….haha!

How does your old denim compare to your new stuff?

My old denim does not even begin to compare with this denim. I’ve already held a little mini-denim funeral for some of the stuff I know has to go. The too-tight or too stretchy or just flat-out ugly stuff has to go!
