Zippers, Zippers, and some more Zippers, everywhere I go I see zippers on denim and not where they normally are suppose to be.

Zippers are easily overdone.   However, when zippers are done right, they look amazing.

So why Zippers?  Well Zippers add a little edge, a little kick to the outfit in subtle yet noticeable way.  Who can’t use a little edge in their wardrobe? The key to pulling off this zipper trend is that you have to think of zippers as an accessory and not a necessity. We all look to accessories to help jazz up our outfits, well now they are built in to the product!

I asked a close friend of mine, Ashley, her thoughts and opinion on the zipper trends  here is what she said: “I think the zippers at the ankle on some skinny jeans is a cute, simple way to work the zipper trend into your wardrobe (for women). For men, a zipper detail can give the outfit a punk/motorcycle chic vibe.  Doesn’t have to be crazy or overdone, just simple. This way, you are blending a classic piece with a subtle bit of trend.”

One of the things I enjoy about GAP’s product is their ability to take a current trend, not only in denim, but in fashion in general and produce a quality garment that is affordable. Here’s a look at GAP’s interpretation of the zipper trend.

Zippers are not just being used by the apparel industry.  You can see a cross over in all fashion sectors. Accessories like headbands and brooches, bracelets and handbags all show a range of ways to work the zipper into your wardrobe.  Footwear is also a great way to sport zippers.

Who said Zippers were just for adults? Gap is also introducing this trend to the youngins!

How to Pull this look off? Not that hard to pull of this look but here are 5 tips when dealing with this zipper trend:

1. DO WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU (always a good rule for all fashion advise)
2. Remember that less is more and that is especially true in this case. too many bells and whistles on clothing can be overwhelimg, So keep the number of zippers to a minium.
3. Don’t over accessorize. Remember, zippers on denim already act as an accessory so no need to clutter your look with too many additional accessories.
4. Choose a style that suits you best.  Some people just don’t “do” skinny jeans.  Maybe you’re better suited for a motorcycle insipired jacket, or a bootcut jean with zipper detail on the pockets.
5. Finally, make sure whatever piece you choose, that you love it.  Nothing pulls an outfit together better than confidence from the wearer.

One of this season’s biggest new trends? Upturned cuffs!  Cuffs are not only huge for the summer but also great for future season. While previewing the Spring Summer 2011 Milan and Paris Fashion Week, I noticed a lot of cuffs and rolls on the runway.  So ladies and gentlemen, get prepped to CUFF!

Why do I love the cuff trend so much?

1. Weather: now that the weather’s getting warmer, cuffs are one of those style moves that will keep you looking sharp while keeping cool. Throw on a nice clean oxford shirt, some loafers and a slight cuff and you are set.

2. Shoes: The days of not being able to show off your favorite shoes are long gone. By cuffing/rolling your denim you are able to show off those great new shoes. My personal favorite for men is a throwback to the ‘50’s: the saddle shoe.

3.Details: Attention to detail is huge right now. Lots of designers in general are looking for new creative ways to spruce up their collections, especially denim designers. GAP is right on point with the cuff trend offering consumers denim with print inside. Only way to show it off? CUFF YOUR DENIM

There are so many ways to cuff your denim.  Guys and girls can do it each so differently. It really just depends on the denim you own!

THE TRICK: Making your roll look like an afterthought—not something you labored over.

Cuffing/Rolling you denim works best with a straight leg, tapered, or skinny leg opening. Here are 3 tips on cuffs:

1.Clean Cuff: Keep it small, cuff it only 2-3 times. The goal is make sure your denim does not bulge.. Minimizing the cuffs to 2-3 helps keep the denim flat and looking clean.

2. Roll Cuff: Personally, I enjoy the roll cuff on guys. For girls, I think this looks best with a boyfriend inspired pair.  The trick when rolling your denim is to start rolling at an angle. We saw a lot of this great roll on the runways at Milan Fashion Week.

3. Just a plain old cuff: Just what is says… a nice simple cuff. Depending how much or how little you what to show off, keep it to one clean even cuff.

So there you have it… the 1-2-3’s on how to cuff you denim. Remember, it’s going to be around for a while, so give it a try!

Heard that denim on denim is a big faux pas? Not this Summer! Denim on denim runways looks for summer have already begun to appear in urban street looks.

For a while, denim on denim has been considered acceptable as long as one of the denims was dark enough to be confused for another material. But this season, denim on denim of the same color (usually a lighter denim) in one outfit is hot!

For  a while i was a little nervous to do the DENIM on DENIM, what I call DOUBLE DIPPING, but this last weekend I finally doubled dipped. While i doubled dipped with two very different colors of denim, i am on the hunt to double dip with light denim. I’ll let you know when I pull this off.
