DENIM REVIEWING: Citizens of Humanity, Avedon Slick Skinny Leg in a size 27

How does the denim fit in the waist, crotch, butt and thighs?

This may seem like an over-exaggeration, but believe me when I say that it’s absolutely true: these are quite possibly the most well-fitting pair of denim I’ve ever worn. I often have trouble with gaping at the waist or unbearable tightness through the booty/thigh area, but these fit perfectly throughout the waist and crotch, as well as throughout the butt and thighs. That NEVER happens! Being that the fabric is incredibly soft and stretchy, the fit maintained it’s comfort level through the entire leg.In my opinion, the comfort of this fit rivaled that of leggings or even sweat pants. However, the aesthetic quality of the Slick Skinny Leg FAR surpasses that of the other pieces.

Where would you wear this denim to?

Prior to receiving this denim, I already had a long road trip planned. Sitting in the car for long hours can be tedious, especially when you’re wearing uncomfortable attire. Well, I’m glad to report that I wore the Slick Skinnies and I’ve (seriously) never been more comfortable. I travel a lot for my job and it always seems like there are two choices for travel apparel: the first choice is looking like a million bucks but wanting to die out of discomfort, the other is looking like a sloppy mess but feeling cozy. With this denim I had the best of both worlds. The denim took me seamlessly from the long car trip, straight into a day of seeing the sites, and then into a fabulous restaurant. The response all around was incredible; people could hardly believe that denim could be so comfortable and fashionable at the same time. Alas, I think this denim alone might be the catalyst for the ultimate death of the sloppy sweatpants across the globe…THANK GOD!

Describe your experience in letting the Denim Guy fit you?  Were you familiar with the brand before the fitting?

I actually already own several pairs of COH denim, however not this particular cut. I was very excited that the Denim Guy responded so well to my new obsession with skinny/stretch denim. The fit he gave me was absolutely perfect. I love new clothes, but I must say that I could definitely live without ever having to enter another mall dressing room for the rest of my life-especially when it comes to denim. It was such a treat to have someone else do all the work! He is such a professional, and already knows what works and what doesn’t, essentially taking all the work out of trying on denim and actually making it fun!

How would you style this denim?

I paired this denim with flat riding boots and a long coat, which worked great because of the uber skinny cut, and there wasn’t any bunching below the knee. I also wore this denim with a cute top and ankle booties for a night event, as well as a pair of converse and a v-neck T for some early morning errands.

How does your old denim compare to your new stuff?

I thought I already owned some decent skinny leg denim, but after wearing the COH pair, I can’t imagine ever voluntarily wearing the other pairs again. In all honestly, they look alright, but I think the circulation in my legs may have been cut off for several hours at a time while wearing them. And they don’t look half as good as the COH Slick Skinny. Why was I torturing myself before? That era is totally over for me! A hefty bag visit to the salvation army is in my near future…

On a scale of 1-10, what do you think your new bootylicious factor is?

On a scale of 1-10, I’d say my bootylicious factor in this denim is a 10, due largely in part to the shear fact that this denim ACTUALLY fits my booty!

How does the denim fit in the waist, crotch, butt and thighs?

This is always generally an issue with my denim. I wear out the inside thigh area pretty quickly. I like to think I have power jumping thighs and a baseball butt (You know, from swinging your thighs around when you swing develops those glutes pretty fast) This might sound kinda nice to have powerful legs, but to find Denim that will fit well and not be baggy is not easy. That’s why I like these Citizens. Always room for a little extra butt.

Where did you wear the denim?

Wore these to a white elephant gift exchange at a sweet Italian restaurant (Buca di Beppo…I love the B&W photos in that place) wore my black denim jacket, black V neck and some dog tags. I wore my hair relaxed… maybe too relaxed, I got more comments on how I should comb my hair then anything else.

How would you style the denim?

I’ve worn this pair a few times and already love how they go with my black denim jacket. I can dress them up with some dress shoes or boots, dress denim for me.

Describe your experience in letting the Denim Guy fit you? What surprised you in letting someone else fit you for denim?

It’s nice to have an expert help you in any aspect of life. I never would have thought a denim expert could really help me much, but you’d be surprised! I’ve already texted him a few times to get advice on pairing different outfits. HA! Plus he understands I can’t fit in skinnies and I don’t do baggy. So he knows me and my style and then works with it.

How did your significant other react to your new denim?

So far she loves my new pair. She hasn’t seen me wear them all that much, but I have a feeling she’ll love these.

How does your old denim compare to your new stuff? Any salvation army visits to get rid of the old denim?

I love my old denim as well. This just helps me be stay away from the laundry room 6 weeks longer.

On a scale of 1-10, what do you think your new bootylicious factor is?

Probably like a 12.4!

How does the denim fit in the waist, crotch, butt and thighs?

These jeans could not have been a better fit for me. The waist was tight but still loose enough and the thighs and butt fit perfectly.  I like my jeans to be slightly longer than normal, so I love these jeans because they are the perfect length! These could not have been better.

Where would you wear this denim to?

I have worn them to dinner and since they have a slight elasticity they were very comfortable.  It also seems like they mold well to my body, which will be great as I continue to wear them more. So far the response has been very positive, I even got a compliment on them the first time I wore them.

How would you style this denim?

Really, you are asking me how I style them…. I styled them very casually, though I’m pretty sure when I need to dress them up it’ll look great because it is such a versatile jean.

Describe your experience in letting the Denim Guy fit you?  Were you familiar with the brand before the fitting?

I have never tried on a pair of Citizens before. My first time trying them on I was very surprised how perfectly they fit on me.  I have never been fitted for denim before and it was a great experience.  THE DENIM GUY knew exactly what fit me and they looked and felt great!

Who did your new jeans make you want to channel? David Beckham or  Eric Bana?

The jeans definitely made me feel more like David Beckham.  They fit me perfectly, show off my ASSsets (if I can say that) and are comfortable all at the same time… what else would you want?

How does your old denim compare to your new stuff? Any salvation army visits to get rid of the old denim?

I did have to go though my closet and give away some of my old clothes, including some old denim I have not worn in years.  It was hard but I got through it!

A Q&A with Bryan on His CofH Denim

THE DENIM GUY: So Bryan… What do you think about your CofH denim?

BRYAN: These are by far my favorite jeans of the year. The waist fits perfect to size and the charcoal grey color can be worn with almost anything. I like the snug fit on my thighs but it is not super tight.

THE DENIM GUY: Bryan, I know length is always an issue with you and denim. How was the length on your Citizens of Humanity denim?

BRYAN: The length is excellent; I’m a tall guy standing at 6’3 so I tend to have a problem finding the right length.

THE DENIM GUY: What is your favorite thing about your new denim?

BRYAN: My favorite part of the Citizens of Humanity are the accentuation of my bottom, the pocket placement is exact for my body type. These are very versatile; I could wear them to casual event or out on the town. This is my first pair of Citizens of Humanity and the Denim Guy fitted them perfectly. The whole experience was great.

THE DENIM GUY: Would you recommend CofH to your friends?

BRYAN: I’d definitely recommend them to a friend just based on the personal reaction I’ve gotten from my peers.

How it fits in the waist, crotch, butt and thighs?

The crotch/butt/thighs are extremely relaxed leading to a “wake up, throw on a pair of jeans and walk out of the house feel.” The detail is amazing on these jeans and the softness is pretty much the closest you can get to perfection.

Where would you wear this denim to?

These jeans are the total “weekender” type jean that you throw on when walking straight out of the house.

I can just imagine myself waking up from an afternoon nap, throwing on the pair of jeans and walking from my house down to the sand to meet my friends at a bonfire.  I like rolling up the denim and showing a bit of style with the detailing while still having that relaxed feel.

How would you style this denim?

The jeans have a fair amount of nice detailing that can make any look come together nicely.  From the white v neck with a simple hoodie to button up and peacoat.

Describe your experience in letting the Denim Guy fit you?  Were you familiar with the brand before the fitting?

I am familiar with the Citizens brand but not this type of denim.  I usually strive for straighter denim but these work extremely well for a relaxed feel that I definitely was lacking in my denim collection.  It was nice to have outside perspective on something that I thought I knew a lot about.  It was nice to learn what salvage denim was…I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more detailing in my next purchase thanks to this pair of denim.

How did your significant other react to your new look?

Luis digs the new relaxed look.  We both agree that it is much different than my normal straight leg, tight denim look.  They will be a great asset to the spring/summer collection when I want something a bit lighter and looser to throw over the board shorts while still maintaining some style.

How does the denim fit in the waist, crotch, butt and thighs?

Awesome mid rise (holla for no muffin top, and a mid-rise that isn’t the least bit reminiscent of a “mom” jean), pockets were not too big (and also not so small they make your butt look giant by comparison), no gapping at the waist, and plenty of room in the thigh.  These jeans had a great fit, snug without being tight, yet still comfortable.

Where would you wear this denim to?

I’d wear this denim to work, out to dinner with a cute top and heels, out shopping, or even to travel in.  I don’t want to look like a hot mess in the airport, but I still need to be comfortable and I think these jeans would create the perfect balance.

How would you style this denim?

I love to wear dark denim with a bright colored shoe. I worship at the altar of the high heel, so I can’t wait to wear them with my hot pink d’orsays or red suede peep toes. On top, I tend to go basic (black/white tank and if I’m at work I’ll layer with a longer grandfather cardigan) and dress it up a bit with chunky bracelets and/or long necklaces.

Describe your experience in letting the Denim Guy fit you?  Were you familiar with the brand before the fitting?

I was familiar with the brand before fitting, and because they have such a range of styles, rises, rinses, etc., I was excited to see what I’d be trying on!  The Denim Guy was able to pick the right pair to fit my body type just right.  I struggle to find jeans that fit well (don’t sag in the butt, aren’t too short, tight in the thigh, but big in the waist, etc.), but these jeans fit like a glove!  I was surprised he was able to find the right pair just by our conversations through email and phone.  Couldn’t have done it better myself!

On a scale of 1-10, how hot did you feel walking down the street in your new denim?

I felt like a 9 ½ .  I reserve that extra half point for the day when I get my long blonde locks back and my hair can swing and sway as much as my hips do when I rock these jeans.  But in all honesty, give me these pants, some sick shoes, and a sidewalk, and I will strut like you wouldn’t believe.

How did your significant other react to your new look?

My boyfriend loved my new jeans.  The fact that he noticed that I was wearing something new was a good sign.  He not-so-conspicuously grabbed my ass at a family party, so I’d say the jeans were doing great things for me.  And him.

Who did your new jeans make you want to channel? Heidi Klum or Scarlett Johanasen?

Considering my girl crush on Scarlett Johannson, I’d love to think I struck the balance between curvy and sexy slim in these jeans.  As much as I want a pair of ankle length skinny or straight pants, they are my fashion kryptonite (I’ve been “blessed” with calves the size of a small child’s head) .  The bootcut of these jeans elongated my leg and made my ass look pretty damn good.  These jeans are totally classic, I love the fact that they won’t go out of style.

Here are 3 looks to the spring summer collection hitting stores early 2010.

Core Selvage –  The Core is a slim leg. This basic 5-pocket button fly fit is slim through the hip and thigh and tapers slightly from the knee to the leg opening. This style is available in selvage and non-selvage washes.

Jagger Low Rise Bootcut– The Jagger is a classic 5-pocket low rise bootcut. This style sits low on the waist, fits slim through the thigh and breaks below the knee into a slight bootcut leg opening.

Core Non Selvage Slim Leg – The Core is a slim leg. This basic 5-pocket button fly fit is slim through the hip and thigh and tapers slightly from the knee to the leg opening. This style is available in selvage and non-selvage washes.
