A GIRL IN HER TWENTIES: FIRST DATE!
Tue, Aug 24, 2010
So this bitch in her 20’s is kind of a sham. Here I am about to give you all kinds of sage advice about what to wear on a first date, and well, there will be no more first dates for me (God willing). Yes, my darlings, Mr. In His 30’s asked me to make it legal. Before I take up legal residence in Stepford, I want to give you all a piece of my mind. Because if anything, when my fiancé and I are married and entirely boring, we don’t want to be seeing any of you dating fools out at the movies poorly dressed.
First dates can rattle your cage in a variety of ways. Here’s to hoping you …
a) want your cage rattled, and b) that it gets rattled just the way you like it.
Sexual innuendo aside, the nerves can get the better of you. Outfit choice here is very important. Similar to the interview outfit, it is one of the first impressions you get of a person. Obviously, there is some attraction out there, since you both decided to go out on a date. Here are a few of the most common date ideas and outfits that should help you get just what you want out of the deal. The deal meaning you would like a second date. If you just wanna get laid, well, that’s an entirely different blog entry.
Dinner and a Movie. I don’t care how cliché it is, I think it’s fun, accessible, and a great way to spend time together without too much pressure. Speaking of accessible, here are outfit choices for guys and girls from stores that are in pretty much every mall and within most budgets.

This shirt from Express Men ($59.50) covers your bases. Do not try to wear a shirt that doesn’t have buttons. No t-shirts, no sweatshirts, and for the love of God, no jerseys. This shirt comes in some great colors and will make a great wardrobe staple. The subtle western details show you took that extra step when picking out your shirt.

These particular jeans are also from Express Men, for all you one-stop shopping lovers ($69.90). Slim Fit Straight Leg “Rocco†jean, in a dark rinse. Express also offers Extra Slim, Classic, and Loose. Keep the wash dark, fading to a minimum, and say no to embellishments.
As far as shoes go, save your flip flops for a beach date, please. No one wants to see your hairy toes while eating dinner.
Ladies, I know you’re going to want something new for the occasion, even if you went shopping the day before you knew you were going on a date. It’s just how we girls roll. Show a little skin in the right places (i.e. put your boobs away) and accessorize accordingly.

Old Navy ($20 on sale). So last week I recommended a $295 skirt, so this week, I offer you a bargain. It is also available in green and black. This tank would go perfectly with denim and a cardigan for when the movie theater gets cold. It shows off your shoulders (I mean really, have you ever seen someone with ugly shoulders?), is very sweet, and versatile. If it’s hot out, crisp white shorts, ankle pants or a skirt would be fabulous. For cooler nights, the old reliable dark denim is perfection.
Personally, I believe that shoes are the best way to have some sex appeal without blatantly putting it out there. A good pedicure and some knockout heeled sandals really go a long way.

These GUESS “Davisa†sandals from Zappos ($98.95) are divine. Available in tan, white, and various prints. I’ve tried them on myself and they perfect the balance between the zip up, leathered shoe that is so popular and a delicately heeled sandal. Can’t you just picture how cute your little red painted toes will look peeking out of these? Plus, Zappos is so easy to work with. 365 day returns and free shipping? Yes, please!
And there you have it. Now get out there and act like the ladies and gentlemen I know you all are. Or not, that’s fun too. Let me know how your dates go, follow me on Twitter @libbylovespink
xoxo

Yeah…so…I’d let that guy in the button up shirt above, rattle my cage any time. Also, I agree about the shoulders thing…they are a great part of every woman’s body.
