Kai D. Spring 2010 Collection Inspiration:  Fan’s inspiration for the Spring 2010 Collection is the Lower East Side (LES) of New York City.  The LES has traditionally been an immigrant, working class neighborhood.   From the historic Tenement Museum that recreates the lives of working class immigrants to the contemporary art scene and the city’s trendiest establishments, The LES is now a neighborhood where tradition meets the cutting edge.   This juxtaposition of old and new resonates with Kai D.’s design philosophy for the Spring 2010 collection.

As a designer working in New York, Kai D. realizes the importance of working closely with the local community to achieve the old-world craftsmanship he desires for his men’s collection. For Spring 2010 Kai D. has shifted 80% of his production to New York.   The theme for Kai D.’s Spring 2010 t-shirt collection is ‘Local’.  Going ‘Local’ does not mean walling off the outside world – Instead it means nurturing locally owned businesses, encouraging sustainable ways of living, and cultivating a more self-sufficient community.

For Spring Kai D. has also launched a limited edition t-shirt collection titled ‘Build the Future’.  20 percent of the profits from this collection will be donated to New York Cares and Give Something Back International to support various projects benefitting children’s education.
