Two young, local artists with contrasting photography styles will present their works at this one-night event

DOWNEY, CA [January 19, 2010] – Downey Art Vibe will be hosting “Ambivalence: A Photo Exhbition” on February 4, 2010 at the historic Downey Theatre. The one-night event will showcase the works of two local artists, Valentin Flores and GabeOne (Gabriel Enamorado), and is slated to open at 8:00 PM.

“Not only have we scored by being able to show the works of these two talented photographers, but I believe we’re setting an example for younger artists in our community,” says Joanne Rapadas, Community Outreach Manager of Downey Art Vibe. “They’re able to see people, who grew up in their hometown of Downey, be successful in their artistic craft and it gives them the hope to pursue their passion.”

Flores and GabeOne, both natives and products of the Downey school system, were brought together for this exhibition to unite their contrasting photographic subjects. While GabeOne has an affinity towards shooting urban and industrial pieces, Flores is a travel photographer who focuses on natural and candid landscapes. It is with this convergence of differing styles that the artists have titled their exhibition “Ambivalence.”

The photographers will be presented at 9:00 pm. Admission is free for all ages, however donations of $10 will be appreciated and will help fund future arts and culture events benefiting the City of Downey. Public parking is available outside of the Downey Theatre.

ABOUT THE DOWNEY THEATRE

The Downey Civic Theatre is a 738-seat live stage theatre owned and operated by the City of Downey and administered by the Department of Community Services. The Theatre opened on June 11, 1970 and plays host to a variety of events throughout the year and is available for rental.

Founded in 2007 by a group of returning locals, Downey Art Vibe exhibits expression in all forms by artists from the City of Downey and its surrounding areas. The mission of the organization is to encourage the creativity of contemporary artists and provide an area for exhibitions and related educational programs. We aim to fill the void of arts and culture in the City of Downey by uniting all who share an interest in creative expression.
