Brad Reviews: Rock & Republic
Sun, Jan 17, 2010

I’m Brad, and I only have one way to describe the PLAIN WRAP by Rock & Republic Neils I received: stunning.
As a 23-year-old male, I go out a lot, from bars to restaurants to coffee shops and see all types of people wearing many different styles and cuts of denim. Also, as a writer with a BA in Journalism, I tend to like to read a lot, from news stories to fashion articles, and I can whole heartedly say that this is one of the nicest pairs of denim I’ve seen, anywhere.
For some background on this pair of denim, they are a size 36 waist, with a fitted thigh that flares slightly in the lower leg. On my particular frame, which I often find hard to fit, as I have thicker thighs and, ummmm, a little junk in the trunk, the Neils fit snug around those particular regions, then loosen up as they go down to my feet. They are ever so slightly snug in the waist, and also snug in the crotch, but I’d much rather have it a little snug then too baggy and loose.

When I received this pair of denim to review, I unfolded them, and immediately got excited. I noticed the impeccable craftsmanship they have, the denim perfectly cut and sewn, and the blue a nice, true dark blue that can be made to look casual or formal depending on when you want to wear them. On top of that, they dispense with the usual R&R pocket stitching in favor of streamlined, unstitched pockets and a very simple, clean, modern “Rock and Republic†label on the back. The materials and the construction are faultless, and the 2% lycra woven in with the denim gives these paints a nice amount of give and comfort. Add in nice little details like a pure white top fly button, and these Neils are the essence of elegance and sophistication.
Now one thing is for you to fall in love with a pair of denim, but sometimes, not everyone else seems to feel the same about them. These are not those kinds of pants. When I walked out to meet my other reviewers with these pants on, they all stopped and stared. One of them even asked to try them on after I was done taking photographs. The best moment, though, was when I caught three of them standing at a distance outside a doorway all staring at me. That’s when you know a pair of denim is not simply just good, but great.

These Neils, in this particular denim and clean design, are very versatile and can be paired with a cool T-shirt to go out to a bar, or matched with a button-up shirt and dress shoes for a nicer affair, as I did for seeing the family on Christmas. It helped that the Denim Guy chose this pair for me, as he understands my lifestyle and needs, as well as how hard it can be sometimes to find a pair of denim that fits me well.
I was not particularly familiar with Rock and Republic other than the name or the Neils before I met the Denim Guy. He insisted I try them though, and he was spot on. He really knew what he was doing, and it’s nice to know you are getting the advice of someone as experienced as he is and someone as focused on how you look and feel as you are.

These jeans definitely made me want to channel David Beckham, as they fit his fashionable, sleek, elegant style, yet have enough to them to make them incredibly sexy, as shown by the all the looks I got from people. And let me just say, if I were rating these jeans for their butt flattering characteristics, they’d be an 11 out of 10. They made my butt look amazing, which I sometimes find to be astonishingly hard, even though it is quite sizeable. When many other jeans I’ve tried flatten it out or just hang around it, these jeans just get right in and contour perfectly to the shape. They’ll even make someone with a relatively modest behind look great (I know, I saw it in person).
Overall, these Rocks offer an unparalleled blend of luxury and versatility, and I cannot recommend them highly enough, especially if you are someone like me who has a thicker frame and cannot fit into the ever-popular skinny jean that has been so in style. With any luck, you’ll get just as many stares as I did. Heck, you don’t need luck. You just need these Rocks!
